Football fans love the accumulator, but a real one takes a whole weekend. Grazie VAR! plays one in under three seconds. At Nonna's corner bar you fill a paper bet slip with 2 to 10 games between made-up clubs named after food, press PLACE, and the slip plays out game by game on the bar TV: a blue tick for a game that comes in, a red cross for a cut. Nonna reacts to all of it.

01The mechanics

How it plays.

  1. 01

    VAR CHECK

    If exactly one game on the slip is cut, the bar TV swings over the ticket for a VAR review. GOAL DISALLOWED or PENALTY GIVEN saves the slip, and the referee overturns about one cut in three.

  2. 02

    BONUS GAME

    A highlighted star game on your slip is the BONUS GAME. If it comes in, the ticket opens MINUTE 90, played on the old TV in the corner of the bar.

  3. 03

    MINUTE 90

    Pick the full-time scores of four Sunday games on the old bar TV, then watch them play out to the final whistle while Nonna follows every chance from behind the counter.

02The moment

Nine ticks on the slip, one red cross, and the bar goes silent. The TV swings over the ticket, the referee walks to the monitor, and Nonna has both hands on her face before the VAR decision comes in.

How do I play Grazie VAR!?

Pick how many games go on your slip, from 2 to 10, and press PLACE. Every game on the slip has to come in for the ticket to pay its total odds.

What does the VAR check do?

It only happens when exactly one game on the slip is cut. The bar TV reviews it, and about one time in three the decision is overturned and the slip is saved.
